This slow cooker Chicken and Sausage Gumbo is a true set-it-and-forget-it meal, perfect for busy weeknights when you want big flavor with minimal effort. Louisiana Fish Fry’s rich Gumbo Base does the heavy lifting, while rotisserie chicken keeps prep quick and easy. Just let it simmer, serve over rice, and enjoy a cozy, one-pot classic the whole family will love.

Ingredients

  • 1 Package Louisiana Fish Fry Gumbo Base 4 oz
  • 6½ cups cold water or low-sodium stock
  • 1 lb cooked rotisserie chicken, shredded or chopped
  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • OPTIONAL: 1½ cups diced onion, bell pepper, and celery (½ cup each)

Directions

  1. Lightly coat a skillet with oil and heat over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned. Transfer sausage to the slow cooker.
  2. OPTIONAL: Add onion, bell pepper, and celery to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Transfer vegetables to the slow cooker.
  3. Pour 6.5 cups of cold water or stock into the slow cooker and stir in the Gumbo Base until well combined.
  4. Stir in shredded or chopped rotisserie chicken. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours.
  5. Once hot and well combined, ensure meat is heated to 165°F. Serve over cooked rice and enjoy!
